Best Video Editing Laptops

The Right Laptop Makes a Big Difference

Best Video Editing Laptop Key Points

First of all, you’ll need plenty of storage capacity for all those high definition video clips. No worries, though. All of the laptops we recommend here have more than enough storage on each hard drive. That way, you can readily access all the video you can construct.

A High-End Processor

Second, get the best laptop processor you can afford. This is because video production puts a lot of demands on a laptop’s capacity to process bits and bytes. Get at least an Intel i5 processor to achieve the right “look and feel” to your finished video through smooth playback of video clips.

The Right RAM

Next, you’ll need plenty of RAM horsepower so your video clips and (eventually) your final product won’t buffer endlessly. Get anything that has more than 8 GB of RAM to really make your new video editing laptop purr under your flying fingertips.

A Kick-Butt Graphics Card

Finally, ever wonder why some videos just don’t play well on a low-end device? It’s because the graphics card isn’t robust enough. Make sure your choice for a video editing PC comes equipped with either NVIDIA or AMD.

But enough tech talk

Here are my Top Choices for Video Editing Laptops Under $1000: All have an Amazon rating of between 4 and 5 stars.

No. 2 Best Laptop for Video Editing: ASUS X555UB 15.6-Inch Full HD Gaming Laptop

This is the powerful laptop that I use personally for nearly 12 hours a day. week in and week out. I use it to produce full motion video book trailers and music videos for demanding clients (are there any other kind?) It comes fully equipped with all the requisite features needed for great performance. This includes an Intel Core i7 Processor, 8 GB of RAM and a full 1 terabyte of hard drive memory.

It’s only listed in second place because it’s a bit pricier than the Dell listed above. But it’s totally worth the extra expenditure.

I fly through edits using Animoto and PowerDirector 15 in tandem to produce fast-moving, compelling videos such as the one below. About the only downside are the built-in speakers, which are a bit tinny. However, I substitute a robust and full-throated Bluetooth portable speaker. The combo of full video and sound is excellent.

Customer reports:

Fewer reviews on this model, but overwhelmingly positive. One buyer particularly liked the backlit keyboard.
